Disability mentoring Day
October 21, 2009

Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) is designed to bring youth and young adults with disabilities into the workplace where they can learn about various career opportunities. You can visit the DMD national website at: www.dmd-aapd.org.

Through DMD, students and other job seekers, called a “Mentee”, are paired with a career professional, called a “MENTOR”, to learn what it means to work in that field or occupation: observe a typical workday, identify necessary skills, and learn about possible internships or employment prospects.

Please go here to read a personal story about a young man who was inspired at a Maine DMD event….

This is a great opportunity to demonstrate positive community leadership and to access new or emerging talent – potential recruits for internships and permanent positions.

The most important thing that your business can do to support DMD is to provide the opportunity for a student to job shadow at your company!
