About the Conference
Working Together and the Diversity Hiring Coalition (DHC) both seek to expand Maine’s workforce by educating Maine employers on the benefits of a diverse workforce. Though Working Together and the DHC target different populations, many of the issues and the benefits are similar. For this Conference, Working Together and the DHCM seeks to educate employers about the benefits of diversity in its broadest meaning—all people with barriers to employment. Individuals with barriers to employment, include, for example, people with disabilities, immigrants and refugees, economically disadvantaged persons, single mothers, and older workers. This Conference will help employers successfully tap into, and benefit from, the talented pool of employees that comprises people with barriers to employment. Collectively, people with barriers to employment offer a way to transform Maine’s workforce – helping Maine navigate the rapidly changing composition of the workforce as we face an unprecedented number of people retiring. Tapping into this underutilized talent will also help Maine employers grow and prosper in a global economy. With Maine competing more and more in the global marketplace, a diverse workforce is imperative to success.About Working Together
